The Paul Brown Family Papers are composed primarily of photographs of and correspondence between members of Brown's immediate family--Congressman Brown, his wife Frances, and his two children Robert ("Bobby") and Rosalyn. It includes a selection of Brown's speeches while serving in Congress from 1933-1961, Robert's letters to home during World War II, and genealogical research compiled by Frances for joining the Daughters of the American Revolution. The collection also contains information about the Congressional War Parents Association (of which Brown was a member) and the former Bobby Brown State Park, named in honor of Robert, who served aboard the U.S.S. The collection consists of a 168 page typescript (photocopy) of THE 116TH AAA GUN BN MOBILE, compiled and styled by John Grove Murray. The volume chronicles the unit from its beginning in 1943 through the Normandy Invasion on Utah Beach on 6 June 1944, on through Paris and Sedan, France into Belgium, Holland and Germany. Included are unit commendations, rosters, and other vital statistics. Written in the 1940s, Col. James D. Shearouse added his comments 42 years later.

This series is subdivided into general correspondence, arranged chronologically, and individual installations, arranged alphabetically and chronologically. The general correspondence concerns the location of military bases and contains some material related to government installations that were not military. Individual installations consist of correspondence and printed materials associated with military bases located in Georgia. Any additional non-textual materials originally filed with papers were removed for preservation purposes and improved access. The collection documents the growth and development of the City of Macon primarily during the administration of Mayor Charles L. Bowden (1938-1947). Included are City of Macon financial statements (1928, 1937-1938); Macon Hospital Commission files (1945-1952); correspondence and photographs documenting the commission of USS Macon (1945) and the Macon premiere of God is my Co-pilot (1945); copies of Bowden's speeches and radio announcements; and general correspondence. Of note is the correspondence with Carl Vinson, especially in relation to the commissioning of the USS Macon. Correspondence between Bowden, his wife, Urney Fields Bowden, and their children, Charlotte and Patsy, illustrate family life in Macon in the 1930s and 1940s. The Bowden and Fields families are documented through genealogical research files and correspondence (1883-1889) between Urney Bowden's grandparents, W. G. Fields and Emma Massey (-1902). The papers include correspondence, photographs, scrapbooks, financial reports, speeches and announcements, publications and clippings, and memorabilia.

Russell, Jr. Collection, Subgroup C, Series XVI: International consists of correspondence and printed material relating to international regions, countries, cities, topics, and incidents. It is subdivided into general correspondence and subject files. General correspondence contains writings and materials of a general international nature. The Subject files include correspondence and materials pertaining to specific geographic regions, such as Africa and the Middle East, and countries such as Cuba, Angola, the Dominican Republic and Vietnam. Materials relating to the British Loan (1942-1946), the Berlin Crisis, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Pueblo Incident, and the Dominican Republic Crisis of 1965 are located in these files. Any additional non-textual materials originally filed with papers were removed for preservation purposes and improved access. The Stovall and McKay Family Papers document Walter Louis and Alice Woodliff Stovall, and their children: Walter Louis, Jr., James Edwin, Mary Katherine, Sarah Elizabeth, Martha Woodliff, and George Woodliff. The majority of the collection is correspondence between the three girls and their parents and document their daily lives. Also, there are letters between George and his wife, Martha McKay, during his service in the Air Corps during World War II. A small amount of correspondence from George and Martha's son, Walter L. Stovall III and his wife Charlayne Hunter (Gault) discuss their controversial biracial marriage and the birth of their daughter. The McKay papers belonged to Martha McKay and her brother Wright Judson McKay. The majority of her files are related to the Sub-Debs, a women's civic club, established in 1934. There is also scrapbook about J. E. Mathis, McKay's maternal grandfather.

Richard B. Russell Jr. served in public office for fifty years as a state legislator (1920-1931), governor of Georgia (1931-1932), and U.S. Senator (1933-1971). Best known for his opposition to civil rights legislation, Russell also focused on national defense, agriculture, soil and water conservation, and economic growth in Georgia. Russell's papers document the entirety of his career, with the vast majority of the materials focusing on his terms in the U.S. Senate. The records include constituent correspondence and other correspondence files, speeches and media files, legislative files, files on civil rights, and published materials.

Hugh Peterson (1898-1961), of Ailey, Georgia, served as a representative to the Georgia legislature from 1923 to 1931, a state senator from 1931 to 1932, and a United States Representative from Georgia's First Congressional District from 1934 to 1946. His wife, Patience Elizabeth Russell Peterson (1902-2002), was the daughter of Judge Richard B. Russell, Sr. and sister of Senator Richard B. Russell, Jr. Peterson was heavily involved in creating the Georgia State Government Reorganization Bill of 1931 and, as a U.S. Representative, was active in sponsoring farm legislation. His congressional work included service on the Transportation, Territories, Rivers and Harbors, Public Lands, and Elections committees. After losing the 1946 election to Prince Preston of Statesboro, Peterson worked with General Lucius Clay in Germany in 1947 as a consultant. After his return, he devoted his time to practicing law in Ailey and serving as a lobbyist in Washington, D. C., for various businesses with interests in Georgia. The collection includes political, business and personal papers as well as campaign memorabilia, photographs, artifacts, maps, and books, all generated and collected by Hugh Peterson, Sr. The collection documents Hugh Peterson, Sr., Patience Russell Peterson (wife), Hugh Peterson, Jr. (son), their extended family (the Petersons and the Russells), and persons active in Georgia politics as well as members of Congress, other politicians and various business people active in Washington, D.C. during the 1920s through the 1960s.

The Richard B. Russell, Jr. Collection comprehensively documents Russell's activities as a United States senator representing the state of Georgia. The Dictation Series is composed of letters and memoranda entirely or partially dictated by Senator Russell. The series is an integration of the copies for the Winder and Washington offices. Most of the dictated correspondence or memos contain Russell's views on upcoming legislation, political appointments, support of or opposition to bills and amendments as well as his positions on such issues as defense, the Vietnam war, agriculture issues, the investigation of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and civil rights and other national issues. Senator Russell rarely expressed his opinions regarding local and state politics in writing or in any public forum.
